Terms of Service

1. Accepting these Terms

You accept these Terms when you create a Synapse account, and each time you use the service. You must be at least 18 years old and the parent or legal guardian of the child whose account you create. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not create an account or use Synapse.

2. What Synapse is

Synapse is an adaptive, spaced-repetition math learning service for children in Grades 3–5 (ages approximately 8–11), aligned to New York State curriculum. It presents practice questions, adjusts difficulty based on your child's performance, tracks progress over time, and generates practice worksheets. Synapse is a supplemental learning tool. It is not a school, not a tutoring service, not a substitute for classroom instruction, and it does not award grades, credit, or credentials.

Synapse is offered directly to parents. It is not sponsored by, contracted with, or provided through any school or district, and nothing in these Terms creates a relationship with your child's school. If we later offer Synapse to schools, that would be governed by a separate agreement.

3. Accounts and eligibility

• Parent-first registration. You register first, then create your child's account and set their username and password. During the closed beta each parent account may have one child profile.
• Accurate information. You agree to give accurate account information and to keep it current.
• Credentials. You are responsible for keeping your login and your child's login confidential, and for activity that happens under either. Tell us promptly at info@thinkprepny.com if you believe an account has been accessed without your permission.
• Supervision. You are responsible for your child's use of Synapse, including their compliance with Section 7 below.

4. Parental consent and verification

Because Synapse is directed to children under 13, we obtain verifiable parental consent before your child may use it, as the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires. To confirm that an adult is giving that consent, we place a temporary charge of $1.00 on your card and refund it immediately. Your child cannot log in or generate any learning data until this verification completes.

What we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have are described in the Privacy Notice for Parents. Using Synapse confirms the consent you gave there. If we change our data practices materially, we will email you and obtain your consent again before the change applies to your child's account. The Privacy Notice, Section 9, explains how that process works today and what part of it we are still building.

5. Plans, billing, and payment

• Free tier. Synapse can be used without payment, with a limit of 35 questions per day.
• Paid plans. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Annual is $69.99 per year, which works out to about $5.83 per month.
• Auto-renewal. Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period, and your payment method is charged, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time — see Section 6.
• Payment processing. Payments are processed by Stripe. You enter your card details directly with Stripe; card numbers never reach our servers. Your use of Stripe is also subject to Stripe's own terms.
• Price changes. We may change our prices. If a price change affects your existing subscription, we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before it takes effect at your next renewal, so you can cancel first if you do not want to continue at the new price.
• Taxes. Prices shown may not include applicable taxes, which may be added at checkout where required.

6. Cancellation and refunds

The verification charge is always refunded in full, and we do not store your card number. If you later purchase a paid subscription, payments already made are not refunded; cancelling stops future charges, and deleting the account ends billing immediately with no refund of the current period.

You can cancel at any time from your parent dashboard; cancelling stops future charges and you keep access through the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting your account is different from cancelling: it cancels the subscription and ends access immediately, and the current period is not refunded. Nothing here limits a refund right you may have under applicable consumer protection law.

7. Acceptable use

You and your child agree not to:

• Use Synapse for anything other than your own child's personal learning, or share an account with anyone outside your household.
• Attempt to work around the free-tier daily limit, subscription status, or any other access control — for example with multiple accounts, automated tools, or by tampering with the application.
• Copy, scrape, resell, or redistribute questions, worksheets, or other content from the service.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code or underlying models of the service, except where that restriction is not permitted by law.
• Interfere with the service's operation or security, or try to access another family's account or data.
• Enter another person's personal information, or content that is unlawful or inappropriate, into any free-text field.

8. Our content and your rights to use it

Synapse, including its software, curriculum content, question bank, generated worksheets, and design, belongs to THINK PREP GROUP INC. or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. While your account is active, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the service and to print or download worksheets for your own child's learning. You do not acquire any other rights, and you may not use our content commercially.

9. Disclaimers

This assessment is for personalized learning purposes and is not affiliated with or endorsed by NYSED. Results reflect in-platform performance only.

Synapse is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not promise any particular educational result, test score, or level of academic improvement — learning outcomes depend on many factors outside our control. Synapse is an early-stage service that depends on third-party providers (including our hosting, database, payment, and AI providers), and we do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of inaccurate content. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, THINK PREP GROUP INC. will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data or lost profits, arising out of or relating to your use of Synapse. Our total liability for all claims relating to the service is limited to the amount you actually paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, these limits apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

11. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.

We are not requiring you to sue us in New York. You and we each agree that the state and federal courts located in New York are a proper place to bring a dispute arising out of these Terms or Synapse, and we each consent to those courts' jurisdiction — but this is not an exclusive venue clause, and it does not stop you from bringing a claim where you live if the law of your state allows it.

These Terms do not require arbitration and do not waive your right to participate in a class action. Nothing here removes any right you have under the consumer protection laws of the state where you live that cannot be waived by agreement, including the right to bring a claim in your local small claims court. 12. Suspension, termination, and deletion

• You can leave at any time. You may cancel your subscription or delete your child's account from your parent dashboard. On deletion the account is immediately deactivated and then permanently erased within 30 days, as described in the Privacy Notice.
• We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms — in particular Section 7 — or where we must do so to comply with law or to protect the service or other families. Except where a serious breach or a legal obligation makes it impractical, we will give you notice and, where appropriate, a chance to fix the problem.
• We may discontinue the service. If we stop offering Synapse, we will give you reasonable notice and refund the unused portion of any subscription period you have already paid for.
• Sections 8, 9, 10, 11, and 13 continue to apply after the agreement ends.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Each version carries a version number (currently 2026-07-31.v3) and the date it was last updated, shown at the top of this page. If a change is material — for example a change to pricing, refunds, liability, or dispute resolution — we will notify you by email before it takes effect and, where the change also affects the consent you gave for your child, obtain your consent again. Continuing to use Synapse after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

We record which version of these Terms and of the Privacy Notice you most recently accepted, and can show you an updated version to confirm from your parent dashboard when either changes materially. Treat the version and date at the top of this page as the authoritative statement of the current Terms, and the email notice described above as how you will learn of a material change.
